CRARC Committee update – August 2023 edition #Committee_update

The CRARC committee meets on-line on the second Wednesday of the month, to discuss the running of CRARC. This email is an outline of items covered and other topics potentially of interest to CRARC members and is promulgated to keep members aware of what is going on.

Wednesday 23rd Aug 2023 (yes this coming Wednesday), the CRARC monthly general meeting will be held at the club rooms, doors opening 7:30 for an 8pm kickoff with an update / demo of the newly fitted out shack.

Club membership is running well, with 164 financial members and another 48 who have yet to renew.  Even though CRARC now has a rolling membership period, the majority of our members were members before this change and their memberships expire on the 30th June.  If you are unsure if your membership is current then you can check via https://secure.hamclubonline.com/payment.php As always, if you have any membership queries, contact Graham and Carl on membership@crarc.org.au

CRARC maintains a number of Beacons and Repeaters.

On the education front, Amanda VK1WX advises: At our July Foundation Course, all five of our candidates passed. The next Foundation course is scheduled for September 16/17 with four candidates already registered. Note that the education team may also conduct upgrade assessments on the Saturday of the course (pending assessor availability and sufficient lead time to order exams) in addition to out of sessions examinations by arrangement with the education team.

For WICEN, the next activity needing support will be the Brookfield Horse Endurance event in mid-October – an enjoyable low intensity event that gets you out into the bush, this would have to be one of the more enjoyable activities that we support. Known activity dates are on the calendar on the club website, so for those WICEN addicts, check the dates and mark them down on your own calendars!

As alluded to above, we finally have an operational shack at the clubrooms. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of a number of club members and the local scout group, we now have HF to 70cm capability in the shack to an end fed 40-10m wire and a 6/2/70cm vertical. We anticipate that this will continue to evolve as upgrades and changes are made. Further information to be promulgated separately.

A quick note to advise that the end of year Christmas function is intended to be held this year on its usual date of the 4th Wednesday of November (22 Nov). Thanks to a donation from an anonymous benefactor, a number of 2m/70cm DMR handheld radios will be raffled off to financial members only (so for those who are no longer financial members, perhaps this serves as a prompt to renew!). More information will be provided in the coming weeks on the rules that the raffle will be run under.
